Final SEC football power rankings: There's a new No. 1

The SEC did not finish the 2025 college football season in dominant fashion. The SEC went just 4-10 in postseason play with two of the SEC’s wins coming against other SEC schools in the playoff.
The Big Ten has won a third consecutive national championship and the SEC’s days as America’s top conference could be numbered or already over. Of course, the SEC remains the best at producing NFL draft picks, so we’ll see if the conference can maintain that streak at the 2026 NFL draft in April.
The SEC’s top team in the College Football Playoff was the Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss defeated Tulane and Georgia in the playoff and lost a heartbreaker to the Miami Hurricanes with a trip to the national championship on the line. For that reason, Ole Miss is No. 1 in our power rankings despite the Georgia Bulldogs winning the SEC championship and going 1-1 in the season series against Ole Miss. The Rebels won the game that mattered the most.
We put Georgia second after Ole Miss. The Bulldogs had a respectable showing in the playoff and still won the SEC. After Georgia, we have Texas. The Longhorns lost three games during the regular season, but beat Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who were competitors to be ranked over Texas. We couldn’t rank four-loss Alabama over Texas due to the Crimson Tide’s recent struggles. We’d pick Texas to win if the two teams met on a neutral field.
Outside of the SEC’s playoff teams and Texas, nobody else won a bowl game. The conference had an awful bowl season even if several teams were checked out due to coaching changes, transfers or opts outs.
