Fired LSU football coach Brian Kelly officially finds new job

Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly officially has a job for the 2026 college football season. CBS Sports announced that Kelly will "serve as an analyst on select games, as a studio analyst on 'Inside College Football' on Tuesdays, and contribute to CBS Sports HQ."

Kelly's move to CBS was reported earlier this Summer; now CBS makes it official with an announcement.

Kelly was fired by LSU in October of 2025 after LSU suffered a blowout loss to Texas A&M at home. After entering the year with expectations, LSU was sitting at 5-3 and out of the playoff picture. LSU decided it was time to move on.

Kelly was LSU's coach from 2022-25. Initially, Kelly had some highs, like beating Alabama in 2022 and Jayden Daniels' Heisman Campaign in 2023. LSU failed to build on the momentum and progress stalled. LSU tabbed Lane Kiffin to replace Kelly.

Kelly's been fairly quiet since leaving LSU. He's said he wants to coach again, but his name didn't pop up on the coaching carousel. Working on TV will give Kelly a way to stay involved in the game and keep busy this fall.

LSU has to pay Kelly a significant buyout, but it's offset if Kelly gets another job. The gig with CBS Sports will chip in a little, but not much. As of now, LSU is still on the hook for most of the contract.
