Five Licking Valley football players highlight All-Ohio list

COLUMBUS — Five Licking Valley football players were among those recognized Dec. 10 when the Ohio Sportsmedia Association released their All-Ohio teams for Divisions II and III.

Maverick Weaver and Quinn Hornfeck were named to the Division III first team for the Panthers, who won the Licking County League-Buckeye Division championships as a part of an unbeaten regular season. Granville’s Kyle Kirby was named to the Division III first team.

Valley’s Brody Rodgers earned Division III second team honors, and teammate Donevin Ghiloni was named to the third team as were Granville’s Cooper Gregory and Bode Shoaps. Valley’s Carson Adkins was named to the honorable mention list.

Watkins Memorial’s Rocco Paschal received Division II third team recognition. Watkins teammate Drew Samsal and Licking Heights’ Robert Talbert each were named to the honorable mention list.

Weaver, a senior lineman, blocked for an offense that averaged nearly 400 yards and more than 38 points per game. Senior defensive back Hornfeck made 24 tackles and two interceptions for a Licking Valley defense that held opponents to less than 200 yards per game and forced 16 turnovers.

Kirby, a senior running back, piled up 2,082 rushing yards and 28 TDs for the Blue Aces.

Junior quarterback Rodgers threw for 1,973 yards and 19 TDs and added 440 yards and 16 TDs on the ground. Ghiloni, a senior running back, rushed for 1,575 yards and 21 TDs behind a dominant line that also featured sophomore Adkins.

Granville junior lineman Gregory led from center and helped block for an offense that averaged more than 340 yards per game and scored 30 points or more seven times. The Blue Aces' senior kicker, Shoaps, made 5 of 6 field goals with a long of 41 yards.

Paschal, a senior linebacker, made 105 tackles and three sacks. He finished with a program-record 374 tackles for his Watkins career. 

Watkins Memorial's senior quarterback, Samsal, threw for 1,761 yards and 16 TDs and added 638 yards and 10 TDs on the ground for the Warriors. Talbert, a sophomore linebacker, made 81 tackles and forced two fumbles for the Hornets.
