Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies got their man, landing a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews, the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2027 recruiting class. He announced his commitment Friday live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

Matthews picked Texas A&M over the Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, and LSU Tigers. The Aggies hosted him on several visits since extending him a scholarship offer in January of 2024, which enabled them to surge in his recruitment over the in-state Hurricanes, who will be working to keep him home until the end.

He is ranked as the No. 5 overall player and No. 1 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 1 player from Florida.

He is the fifth five-star prospect that Elko and the rest of Texas A&M's coaching staff have landed already, joining safeties Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, and cornerback Raylaun Henry. His addition gives Texas A&M the best offensive line recruiting class in the country. Not only do they have two five-star tackles in Matthews and Brown, but they also have two five-star offensive tackles committed in Kaeden Scott and DeMarrion Johnson.

Matthews is the 14th commitment for the Aggies in the 2027 recruiting class, giving them the No. 1-ranked class in the country according to 247Sports. All 14 of their commits are considered four-star prospects, and their five five-star commits are the most in the country.
