Offensive tackle Mark Matthews, out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has garnered attention from some of college football‘s best programs.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 301 pounds, he already has impressive size for a recruit in the 2027 cycle. Matthews is listed as a five-star prospect, the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 2 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
He earned first-team honors as a MaxPreps Junior All-American after helping St. Thomas Aquinas win its seventh straight state championship.
While holding offers from over 30 FBS teams, the pass protector recently revealed that the Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies have emerged as his top schools. He mentioned that those three are likely to get him for an official visit.
In an article by Rivals’ Harrison Reno, the offensive tackle highlighted what excites him about the Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart.
“Got to talk to Coach Kirby, you just get that feeling at Georgia, it’s a winning program, you get that winning feeling when you step on campus,” Matthews said. “And I like it. … Not to be weird, but the aura they have, Georgia’s a good place.”
The Bulldogs are attempting to bolster what is already a solid 2027 recruiting class. Smart and his staff have a group that ranks second in the nation and first in the SEC with five commitments.
Matthews could be the second big offensive tackle addition, joining four-star Kelsey Adams. He would also be the second five-star recruit added, joining running back Kemon Spell.
