Head coach Lincoln Riley has quickly put together one of the most impressive 2027 recruiting classes in college football. The USC Trojans have landed 10 commitments, ranking second in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation.
Headlining the group is five-star athlete Honor Fa’alave-Johnson, who pledged himself to the Trojans on March 14. USC found itself in the mix for yet another five-star recruit as things heat up.
On April 2, tight end Ahmad Hudson, out of Ruston, Louisiana, announced he would be taking an official visit with the Trojans from June 5-7. At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, he is a five-star recruit, the No. 1 tight end and the No. 14 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
Last season for Ruston High School, he earned first-team honors as a MaxPreps Junior All-American. Getting him on campus offered the Trojans an opportunity to make a strong impression.
However, less than two weeks after scheduling his official visit, Hudson changed his mind. On Tuesday, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman reported that the tight end has cancelled his official visit with USC and another with the Texas A&M Aggies.
“He’s scheduled to officially visit Nebraska (June 12-14) and LSU (June 19-21) after canceling plans to get to USC and Texas A&M,” Spiegelman wrote.
The Trojans and Aggies were also left off his small list of finalists. The only teams still alive for Hudson’s commitment are the Nebraska Cornhuskers and LSU Tigers, with a decision expected before the end of spring.
While Hudson would have been the second tight end USC landed in the 2027 cycle alongside three-star Jace Cannon, it’s a big disappointment. If Riley and his staff still want to add to the position, they must look elsewhere.
With Hudson out of the picture, the Trojans have offers out to several talented tight ends. That includes four-star Brock Williams, four-star Rahzario Edwards and four-star Grant Haviland.
