Florida CB Jameer ‘Jamroc’ Grimsley plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Grimsley spent two seasons in Gainesville, redshirting in 2024 before entering this fall as a redshirt freshman. As a true freshman, Grimsley played in two games and made his collegiate debut vs. Texas.

He was used sparingly in 2025 as well, logging a total of 27 snaps during three games. He made his first career start vs. Mississippi State, where he logged one tackle against the Bulldogs. It was his first career tackle.

Despite being a Florida native, Grimsley’s sights weren’t always set on becoming a Gator. He was originally committed to play for Nick Saban at Alabama, but entered the NCAA transfer portal after his retirement.

Before college, Grimsley was a four-star recruit per the Rivals Industry Rankings,
a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was slotted as the No. 157 overall player in the class of 2024, a the No. 21 cornerback in his class.

Apart from football, Grimsley was also a track star in high school. During his junior year, he ran a 10.84 in the 100-meter dash while posting 21.79 in the 200m. He also posts a 52.12-second time in the 400-meter.

The second transfer of his career comes once again after a coaching change. Saban went on to retire after the 2023 season before he committed to Billy Napier and the Gators. He told On3 at the time that Florida was his “dream school.” Napier was fired mid-season and Jon Sumrall has since been given the reigns.

Now, Grimsley will be looking for a new home to play college football next season. Out of high school, Grimsley was recruited by the likes of Florida State, Penn State, Michigan and North Carolina, among others.

Once the NCAA transfer portal opens on Jan. 2, players can officially enter their names in the NCAA transfer portal and go on to initiate contact with their preferred schools. The portal will be open for 15 days and close on Jan. 16.

Notably, players who are on teams competing in the national championship game are allowed five extra days to make their portal decision. The College Football Playoff championship game will be played on Jan. 19, so the players on those teams will be allowed until Jan. 24 to enter the portal and choose their next school.
