Florida commit downplays FSU gameday visit

The FSU Seminoles will play the No. 19 SMU Mustangs in a primetime showdown on Monday night in Doak Campbell Stadium to close out Week 1 of the 2026 college football season.

The Seminoles are set to host several important recruiting targets for the game, including four-star safety Kamarion Johnson, who is committed to the Florida Gators. FSU was recruiting Johnson over the summer and set to host him on an official visit, but the trip was cancelled after he committed to Florida.

While this visit will give them a chance to try to make a move in his recruitment, he downplayed its importance when talking to Tyler Harden of Swamp247.

"It's not really much, for real," Johnson explained. "Just want to hang out with my friends and hopefully watch a good game."

Although Johnson seems to be in town just to watch the game, it will give FSU a chance to impress the 6-foot, 185-pounder and could help them make progress on a flip if they pull off the upset. FSU currently has two safeties committed in four-star prospect Ta'Shaw Pooole and three-star Jemari Foreman.

He is ranked as the No. 412 overall player and No. 38 safety in the 247Sports composite. The Homerville product is also the No. 47 player from Georgia.
