Florida defensive lineman Michai Boireau plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent two seasons with the Gators.

“I want to give all thanks to God for the opportunity to be a student-athlete at the University of Florida,” Boireau wrote in a statement. “I’m truly thankful for my coaches, teammates, support staff, and everyone who played a role in my development on and off the field. After a lot of reflection, prayer, and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Boireau started in all nine of his appearances for the Gators this season. He tallied 20 tackles, two sacks and an interception. As a true freshman in 2024, Boireau made 12 appearances, logging 144 total snaps.

Michai Boireau played high school football at Creekside (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 760 overall player and No. 68 defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.

When Boireau first came to Florida, he measured in at 394 pounds. He underwent an impressive physical transformation during his two seasons with the Gators. Earlier this year, head coach Billy Napier raved about Boireau.

“Michai’s a very smart young man and he has good football acumen,” Napier said. “He’s a good communicator, he makes players around him better. And I think he comes from a winning program and he knows what it should look like.

“He’s got some leadership traits and he’s got a little edge to him that I like. He plays with a motor on game day. And to be that big, to see him pursue, to see the extra effort plays on tape and the energy, I think it’s why he’s a difference maker for us.”

Florida fired Napier after the Gators’ Week 8 win over Mississippi State. In November, the school named Jon Sumrall its next head coach.

Naturally, with a new coach taking over the program, Florida is experiencing significant roster turnover. The program has already had 14 players announce their intent to enter the transfer portal. Nonetheless, Sumrall is confident in the future of Florida.

“I will never back down,” Sumrall said at his introductory press conference. “We’re going to do everything we can to win fast. I have a plan for how we can win long-term, but I want to win tomorrow and today and every day. I respect that the Florida fan base is not patient.

“They want to win right now, too. You’ve got the right coach.”
