Florida football scored its biggest win of the season so far on Saturday with a definitive 52-28 victory over Ole Miss inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Week 4 triumph elevated the Gators not only in the many various polls and rankings, but also into the College Football Playoff picture.
One of the publications that promoted the Orange and Blue after its fourth-straight win this fall was CBS Sports, whose writer Chip Patterson moved Florida up eight spots to No. 8 in his updated college football re-rank. That now puts Jon Sumrall and Co. between No. 7 Alabama and No. 9 BYU.
"The Gators have moved 14 spots in the last two weeks with their 2-0 start to SEC play, now back in the top 10 and closing the gap with conference rivals at the very top of the rankings," he stated.
Patterson's new ranking matches the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25; this week's promotion in the major polls marks the first time since 2021 that the program cracked the top 10 on both ballots.
SEC schools in CBS Sports' re-rank top 25 after Week 4
The SEC is down to nine schools among the top 25 in CBS Sports' re-rank this week, with Texas and Georgia, respectively, occupying the top two spots. They are followed by Alabama (No. 7), Florida (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 10), LSU (No. 11), Mississippi State (No. 16), Tennessee (No. 17) and Missouri (No. 24). Texas A&M dropped out after being ranked No. 23 last week, while Kentucky is still on the outside looking in at No. 27.
