Another loss for the Florida Gators means another drop in the USA TODAY Sports college football rerank. The Orange and Blue are now at a season-low No. 79 with two games remaining in the 2025 season.
Florida’s 34-24 loss to Ole Miss in Week 12 means the Gators can not reach bowl eligibility this year. The best Florida can do is five wins, and the odds look slim with a top-25-ranked Tennessee team coming to Gainesville next week.
Any hopes of the Gators cracking the top 50 by year’s end are all but out the window, but a 2-0 finish might do something for this rerank. Avoiding a last-place finish in the SEC feels like a good goal at this point.
USA TODAY Sports rerank Top 10
Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M held steady in the top three, in that order. Georgia’s win over Texas put the Bulldogs up a spot ot No. 4, and Oregon also moved up one to round out the top five. Texas Tech jumped two spots to No. 6 this week, while Ole Miss stayed still at No. 7 — somewhat surprising considering the Rebels played poorly against Florida.
Oklahoma’s win at Alabama moved the Sooners into the No. 8 spot, and the Crimson Tide is down five places to No. 9 following the loss. Notre Dame rounds out the top 10 this week.
SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports re-ranking
Besides the five SEC teams ranked inside the top 10, four more find themselves inside the prestigious top 25. Vanderbilt is knocking on the door at No. 12, Texas is No. 18 despite an eight-spot drop and Tennessee is just behind at No. 19. Missouri is back inside the top 25 after beating Mississippi State and a three-spot jump to No. 24.
The other seven SEC teams are all outside of the top 50. LSU is very close to that threshold at No. 51, followed by Kentucky at No. 61 and Mississippi State at No. 63. Auburn stayed at No. 72, while Florida dropped to No. 79 — just one spot ahead of South Carolina at No. 80.
The only other SEC team ranked below Florida is No. 97 Arkansas.
2025 Florida Gators USA TODAY Sports 136 team re-rank so far
Florida started the year just inside the top 25, nearly 10 spots below its preseason ranking in either major poll.
A 55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.
Following another loss, to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall. After loss No. 3 to Miami, the Gators fell 15 spots to No. 64. Florida started its climb back up the rankings in Week 5, while on bye, albeit a one-spot ascent, but an upset victory over the Texas Longhorns sent the Gators up to No. 56 in the country.
Losing to Texas A&M in Week 8 led to an eight-spot drop, but the bye week brought a one-spot climb. Florida fell to No. 60 in Week 10, and dropped even further to No. 73 last week.
