Florida football plummets in USA TODAY Sports rerank after Week 11

The USA TODAY Sports college football rerank has kept the door open for the Florida Gators to reenter the top 50 all year. Saturday’s loss to Kentucky put an end to those hopes, though, as the Gators dropped 13 spots to a season-low No. 73.

With Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida State closing out the 2025 schedule, odds of rising 23 spots or more are slim. The concerns over DJ Lagway’s season-long struggles also hurt the team’s chances, given that these lists are constructed by humans, not computers.

However, an upset over either SEC team might keep Florida from reaching the 80s and 90s.

Indiana and Ohio State swapped places this week, with the Buckeyes taking over the top spot on the rankings. Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia stayed put, as did No. 6 Oregon and No. 7 Mississippi. Texas Tech and Notre Dame climbed one spot each after breaking into the top 10 a week ago.

Texas is the new addition, rounding out the group.

SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports re-ranking

Besides the five SEC teams listed in the top 10 above, the conference has three more teams inside the top 25.

Oklahoma is the closest to breaking into the top 10 at No. 11 — no change from last week. Vanderbilt is climbing back up the rankings after an overtime win against Auburn. The Commodores are now No. 13 following a three-spot jump. Tennessee checks in at No. 19 this week without playing a game.

The other seven teams in the conference are outside the top 25. Missouri is the only one close at No. 26; however, the Tigers fell eight spots with a loss to Texas A&M on Saturday. No other SEC team cracks the top 50.

The LSU Tigers fell 15 spots to No. 53, Mississippi State dropped 11 spots to No. 56 and Kentucky is still at No. 59 despite a nine-spot jump. Auburn moved ahead of Florida, albeit by one spot, at No. 72.

The only two SEC teams ranked below Florida are No. 79 South Carolina and No. 92 Arkansas.

2025 Florida Gators USA TODAY Sports 136 team re-rank so far

Florida started the year just inside the top 25, nearly 10 spots below its preseason ranking in either major poll.

A 55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.

Following another loss, to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall. After loss No. 3 to Miami, the Gators fell 15 spots to No. 64. Florida started its climb back up the rankings in Week 5, while on bye, albeit a one-spot ascent, but an upset victory over the Texas Longhorns sent the Gators up to No. 56 in the country.

Losing to Texas A&M in Week 8 led to an eight-spot drop, but the bye week brought a one-spot climb. Florida fell again, that time to No. 60 in Week 10, leading to this week’s update.
