Florida football wide receiver Eugene Wilson III will miss the rest of the season.

Wilson will have ankle surgery, which he sustained against Georgia, according to Florida football interim head coach Billy Gonzales during a press conference on Monday, Nov. 10

“Eugene is going to have surgery on Wednesday,” Gonzales said. “He will have ankle surgery. “He had a high ankle sprain. He’s going to have a tight-rope procedure to give him the best opportunity to get back to himself coming off it to get ready for spring ball.”

The redshirt sophomore had one of the best games of his career against Georgia as he recorded nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

“Tough son of a gun,” Gonzales said. “I talked to our training staff. He got hurt during the Georgia game and pushed through it. Came back in the second half and just battled. Talking to (Wilson), I’ve said I’ve not seen a lot of people be able to do what he did, be able to come back and play in that second half with the injury that he had. So, we’re going to get cleaned up.”

This will be the second straight year that Florida (3-6, 2-5) loses Wilson midseason. Last year, the wide receiver’s season was cut short after he had hip surgery.

The redshirt sophomore has posted 27 catches, 239 yards and three touchdowns this season.
