Florida football held its 10th spring practice on Tuesday, March 31, at Sanders Practice Fields.
In all, the Florida Gators will practice 15 times this spring, culminating with the Orange and Blue Game on April 11 at The Swamp (noon, TV TBD).
First-year Florida coach Jon Sumrall is maintaining a physical tone in practice as UF is looking to turn around a squad that went 4-8 last season. Florida held its first scrimmage over the weekend and will hold another scrimmage on April 4.
Competition remains at multiple positions, including quarterback, offensive line and tight end.
Here are three takeaways from the open portion of practice:
Transfer emerging in Florida football TE competition
James Madison transfer Lacota Dippre is starting to separate himself from others in the position group in the starting tight end competition.
Dippre made a few nice grabs during Florida's practice as he continued to get increased reps. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Dippre, from Scranton, Pa., made 13 starts for JMU last season, with 17 catches for 192 yards and 3 TDs.
Florida football LB Myles Graham taking part in drills
Florida football linebacker Myles Graham was a full participant in drills in an orange non-contract jersey. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Graham, UF's leading tackler last season, is continuing to make progress from his December shoulder surgery.
Also on the injury front, freshman tight Heze Kent end sat out practice and was spotted in a boot. Wide receiver Dallas Wilson took the field in a blue jersey and did some light running, but didn't take part in drills as he continues to work his way back from a foot injury.
Transfer DB making impact in Florida football secondary
Transfer defensive back Kanye Clark is continuing to make an impression in UF's secondary with his combination of coverage and hitting ability in the secondary. The 6-0, 193-pound Clark played in nine games at cornerback and made two starts at nickel for UCLA last season, totaling 22 tackles,1.0 tackle for loss, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. Clark appears a strong fit at the star position if/when Florida goes to five defensive backs.
