Florida freshman tight end Cameron Kossman plans to enter the transfer portal, according to reports from both Swamp247 and Gators Online.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Kossman flipped from Penn to Florida in December. Despite committing after the early signing period, Kossman was an early enrollee with the Gators. At 6-foot-6inches and 240 pounds, Kossman was considered a high-upside addition to the roster. Florida viewed him as a strong run-blocker with potential as a pass-catcher who could thrive in 12 personnel.
Kossman underwent elbow surgery in the fall after playing one offensive snap, as a pass-blocker, in Florida’s opening-week win over Long Island.
With Amir Jackson and Tony Livingston set to return, Kossman could have served in a backup role alongside Micah Jones and incoming freshman Heze Kent. Instead, he’ll look for a new home, despite not receiving any Power Four offers besides Florida out of high school.
“I haven’t told him, but I kind of compare him to myself,” Hansen said of Kossmann in July. “I was a very late commit. I think I committed the week before signing day. I just told him that, ‘Your chance is going to come.’ But the worst thing that could happen is they call your name and you’re not mentally ready. So I was like, ‘You’ve got to do the extra steps. You’ve got to study, you’ve gotta do the homework. Anything Coach asks, do more.’ We have like four or five assistants, get one of them and go in the film room, you know? He’s been doing that.”
