The Florida Gators are working hard to entice some of the best players in the 2028 recruiting class. With new head coach Jon Sumrall at the helm, Florida is aiming to revamp its recruiting success and get back to being national championship contenders.
The Gators have put themselves in the mix for the class of 2028 EDGE Asher Ghioto, out of Jacksonville, Florida. They’ve already hosted him in Gainesville for a total of 10 unofficial visits, with the most recent being on June 20.
Unfortunately for Florida, while the pass rusher is expected to stay in-state, it’s not with them. On Friday, Rivals recruiting analyst Gary Ferman logged an expert prediction for Ghioto to commit to the Miami Hurricanes.
The outcome would be a huge win for the Hurricanes, who have already landed two commitments in the 2028 cycle. Those two commitments being four-star offensive tackle Kweli Fielder and three-star quarterback Knox Annis.
Ghioto would be a major addition. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, he is a five-star recruit, the No. 2 EDGE, the No. 4 player in Florida and the No. 7 player in the nation, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.

Last season, he earned first-team honors on the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team. Playing for Bolles High School, he recorded 84 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 23 sacks.
If this prediction becomes a reality, the Gators will have to look elsewhere for pass rushers. Luckily, the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine does give Florida the best chances to land four-star EDGE Cassell Cruickshank (21.2%) and four-star EDGE Antonio Thomas Jr. (41.5%).
