Florida Gators Receive Shocking Outlook for 2026 CFB Season

As the Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall continue to prepare for the upcoming college football season, the predictions by the national media have taken the news by storm this offseason.

While the expectations remain low for the Gators heading into the 2026 season, it’s clear that Sumrall’s impact on the program has caught the attention of many college football analysts. However, while there are plenty of questions that remain unanswered this offseason, the biggest one on Florida fans’ minds will be the program’s record during this year’s regular season.

According to ESPN’s preseason Football Power Index, Sumrall and the Gators are set to enter the 2026 college football season as the No. 18-ranked team, despite their brutal schedule this year.

After finishing the 2025 season with an abysmal 4-8 record, the Gators will look to once again become a powerhouse program in the Southeastern Conference under the influence of Sumrall and his coaching staff.

One of the most important factors from the offseason that should have an impact on Florida this year is the massive amount of transfers Sumrall recruited upon his arrival to campus. The Gators managed to nab a total of 29 transfer portal additions following the conclusion of the 2025 season, with names such as former Auburn wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. and Georgia Tech quarterback Aaron Philo highlighting the group. Both Singleton and Philo’s prior experience under Florida’s newest offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, should ease the coaching staff’s transition to the program in 2026.

While the Gators were featured in the top 25 of ESPN’s FPI this preseason, the projected record for Sumrall’s squad still remains grim for the upcoming season. Florida’s FPI score of 13.6 completely overshadows its projected record, which stands at 6.7-5.3. Still, a potential 7-5 record would be a huge success for the newest head coach, as the program has a brutal conference schedule this year. If the Gators can reach a bowl game in Sumrall’s first season as a head coach, that would be a huge stepping stone for the program.

Currently, Florida has the 10th-highest odds to win the National Championship in 2026 at +5000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
