Jon Sumrall’s recruiting prowess comes into focus with five-star wide receiver Easton Royal after visiting the Florida Gators.

Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall hosted two five-star recruits this past weekend in Texas Longhorns commit, wide receiver Easton Royal, and Texas Tech Red Raiders commit, defensive lineman Jalen Brewster. Having them both on campus after getting involved late in the process was a massive win for the Gators.

With both players on campus, it was a great chance for Sumrall to get a flip. That hasn’t happened quite yet, but he has put the Gators in great position. As things sit, the Gators are going to be waiting for a crucial weekend of visits.

Florida Gators 2027 Recruiting Class

  • In Jon Sumrall’s first season, the Florida Gators have the No. 5 overall recruiting class with 21 commitments.
  • Among their commitments, three of their top ones are on the offensive line, including five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
  • Sumrall is chasing multiple five-star recruits, including two at wide receiver and the No. 1 overall recruit in Texas Tech commitment Jalen Brewster.

Florida Gators await anticipated Texas visit for Easton Royal

There is one weekend left for the majority of official visits, and it’s a big one for the Gators. They will be having multiple players on campus, but their biggest ones aren’t on campus at all.

After being on campus this past weekend, Royal will be back in Austin, Texas, visiting the Longhorns. It’s not a surprise that hte school he’s committed to is getting the final visit, but it’s noteworthy nonetheless.

Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman breaks down the recruitment, and it seems the pressure the Gators have put on Royal is working.

The Longhorns have continued to stand tall in Royal’s recruitment and have a chance to stick a pin in it this upcoming weekend. He has made a handful of visits to Austin this offseason and has strengthened his relationship with Steve Sarkisian and this staff along the way.

LSU and Florida have continued to make progress in this recruitment throughout the spring. The Tigers made a strong impression with the in-state blue-chipper back in Baton Rouge, his fourth visit to campus since April. Florida has the ammunition to keep this race interesting and will not stop recruiting the five-star.

These past two official visits have Royal and his camp strongly considering their options.

The fact that Royal is strongly considering his options outside of Texas is huge for the Gators. After not being on the top-five schools in the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gators are now slotted in tied at fourth at 1.4%. For context, Texas is still at No. 1 at just 21.6%. It shouldn’t be a surprise after Royal spent the weekend tweeting pictures of his weekend in Gainesville.

This is likely going down to the wire, with the Gators being a serious contender to land Royal.
