Florida Gators Target No. 5 QB Kingston Preyear After Strong Campus Visit

The Florida Gators went 4-8 to finish the 2025 college football season. They failed to reach bowl eligibility for the second time in three years. They’re now under new leadership, with former Tulane Green Wave head coach Jon Sumrall being hired to replace Billy Napier.

Sumrall and his staff have gotten to work quickly to rebuild the Gators. It may not be as quick as a one-year turnaround, though, and Sumrall is looking far into the future. While transfer portal movement continues, Sumrall is putting focus on the 2028 recruiting class.

Florida is targeting quarterback Kingston Preyear out of Montgomery, Alabama. As a sophomore at Benjamin Russell High School, he threw for 3,026 yards, 34 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 128.2 quarterback rating. He also rushed for 518 yards and two touchdowns.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 190 pounds, Preyear is a four-star recruit, the No. 5 quarterback and the No. 60 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.

He recently took a visit to Florida. After spending time in Gainesville, Preyear spoke to Rivals’ Chad Simmons and praised his experience with the Gators.

“They are No. 1 on my list now,” Preyear said. “Florida made me feel like I was a priority and a main target the entire time I was there. I liked the staff and the things they were telling me a lot.”

While Florida made a strong impression, it’s not the only program pushing for Preyear’s commitment. The quarterback has also taken visits with the Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide.
