Florida lands commitment from 4-star OL Samuel Bailey over Alabama, Auburn

John Sumrall is cooking in Gainesville, Florida.
Two days after landing his signature win just four games into his tenure as the head football coach of the Gators, Sumrall added a major addition to his 2028 recruiting class when four-star offensive lineman Samuel Bailey announced his commitment on Monday, Sept. 28.
Florida won the commitment of the 6-foot-6 ½, 290-pound offensive tackle from Mae Jemison High School in Huntsville, Alabama, over in-state competition from Alabama and Auburn.
Bailey — who is ranked as the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class by USA TODAY Sports Composite Rankings — was one of several major recruits the Gators hosted during their weekend beatdown of Ole Miss, 52-28.
Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein — a former UF offensive lineman — was the primary recruiter for Bailey.

Bailey is ranked as a four-star recruit, the No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 51 overall player in the 2028 USA TODAY Sports Composite Rankings.
He was one of several big-time recruits in the 2027 and 2028 classes who were in attendance for Florida's matchup against Ole Miss on Saturday, Sept. 26. No. 1 overall prospect Brysen Wright was also in attendance.
Bailey, who attends Mae Jemison High School in Huntsville, also held offers from the Crimson Tide, Tigers, Michigan, Clemson, and other high-profile college programs.
Florida 2028 recruiting class
Bailey's commitment makes him the third recruit to join the 2028 recruiting class for Sumrall and the Gators. He joins a class that also features four-star wide receiver Armani Strong (Chaminade-Madonna, Hollywood, FL) and three-star safety Cyion Smith (Blountstown High, Blountstown, FL).
According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, the Gators class sits 11th in the 2028 recruiting cycle.
