Florida lands top nickel target in 2027 commit Kamauri Whitfield

Florida football landed a commitment from in-state target defensive back Kamauri Whitfield on Monday, adding another important piece to Jon Sumrall's first recruiting class. As the 2027 cycle starts to wane, the final pieces for UF's latest class are falling into place, with Whitfield representing pledge No. 25 and the fifth defensive back.

He will join cornerbacks Aamaury Fountain and Amare Nugent, along with safeties Kalib Dillard and Kamarion Johnson, to round out Florida's defensive back haul. The Gators' DB coaching duo of Brandon Harris and Chris Collins identified Whitfield as their top nickel target early in the cycle, prioritizing his ability to fill multiple roles.

As a junior, the Gators' latest addition appeared in just nine games, but during his sophomore campaign, Whitfield recorded 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a lone quarterback hurry.

Nebraska emerged as the biggest challenger to Florida late in the process after the three-star Orlando, Florida, native toured Lincoln earlier this summer, but the Gators ultimately secured the 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound prospect. Whitfield decommitted from Tennessee just weeks after being hosted by the Gators for an unofficial visit in January. Florida was also the first stop on Whitfield's summer visit schedule in late May.

Whitfield is a consensus three-star recruit across all three major recruiting services — 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. 247Sports has him ranked No. 559 nationally and No. 52 among cornerbacks on its class of 2027 composite list, while Rivals has him a bit lower at Nos. 563 and 55, respectively.
