Florida ranks among top 12 most talented teams in college football

With the 2026 college football season starting, 247Sports finalized its team-talent rankings, and the Florida Gators sit at No. 12 in the nation.

The No. 12 ranking is based on Florida's team-talent score of 859.91 using the site's standalone rankings. When sorting by the 247Sports Composite, which also factors in ESPN and Rivals rankings, Florida finds itself at No. 10 with a score of 891.07. Using both systems, Florida ranks Nos. 7 and 6, respectively, in the SEC. Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee are ahead.

Considering the massive amount of roster turnover after Jon Sumrall took over the program, it's a testament to the quality of players brought in. There are nearly 60 new players on Florida's roster, including 32 transfers.

Key retentions by the new staff, such as running back Jadan Baugh, receivers Vernell Brown III and Dallas Wilson, linebacker Myles Graham, edge rusher Jayden Woods and cornerback Ben Hanks III, helped keep Florida's depth chart loaded with talent.

Talent doesn't always equal wins, though. Florida also ranked No. 12 a year ago, but the Gators finished the season 4-8. Injuries, scheme and luck all play a factor in whether a program gets the most out of its roster.

Florida has a challenging road ahead, including a nine-game SEC schedule. The talent is elite across the conference, with 13 teams inside the top 20 of these rankings. The Gators will not have an overwhelming edge against most of their opponents this season, but Sumrall has enough raw talent to make a quick turnaround realistic.
