Florida St. LB Justin Cryer commits to Longhorns from transfer portal

A huge position of need for the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA transfer portal is linebacker. UT's LB depth has been decimated with transfers and NFL Draft entries. Now, it looks like Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is addressing the issue. Florida State LB Justin Cryer has committed to Texas through the transfer portal.

Cryer committed to Texas on a campus visit Friday. The Brookshire, TX native signed with Northwestern as part of the Wildcats' 2023 recruiting class and was an early enrollee. But he left for Florida State without every playing for Northwestern.

The three-star prospect was ranked as the No. 1,012 player nationally and the No. 79 linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The 6-foot-1, 232-pound LB played 50 snaps his freshman year, appearing in 23 games. He made 12 tackles. After nine-games his sophomore season, Cryer suffered a season ending injury after making 32 tackles. He also had two tackles for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Cryer started eight games this season. He led FSU linebackers with 43 tackles. He also recorded five tackles for loss and one sack and seven quarterback hurries..
