Florida State and Georgia have mutually agreed to cancel the schools’ home-and-home series scheduled for 2026 and 2027, the schools announced Thursday, May 7.

In a statement announcing the decision, FSU said the schools “are in discussion to play a neutral-site matchup soon.”

“As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028,” FSU athletic director Michael Alford said in a news release. “We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward.”

In December, Marc Weiszer of the Athens-Banner Herald, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported the schools were working toward moving the game to Tampa as a neutral site contest.

“While we are still early in the process regarding neutral site plans, we remain optimistic and look forward to further conversations with Florida State,” Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said in a statement.

The teams last met in the 2023 Orange Bowl, which the Bulldogs won 63-3, weeks after the Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff.

The SEC is moving to a nine-game conference schedule starting this season.

Georgia announced in December it cancelled home-and-home series with Louisville in 2026 and 2027 and N.C. State in 2033 and 2034
