Florida State has just gotten a massive addition to its 2027 recruiting class. Four-star safety Ta'Shawn Poole has committed to the Seminoles, making him the 16th pledge of the cycle so far. They beat out the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers for the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder.
Poole is the nation's No. 72 overall recruit and the No. 5 safety per Rivals industry rankings. He's also the No. 6 prospect in the state of Georgia.
Tennessee had the momentum for Poole at one point in time. His official visit to Tallahassee on June 12 changed things for FSU as they took the lead in his recruitment, and they even got four predictions to land him the week after. However, Georgia was able to get an official visit with Poole during the last weekend for visits on June 19, and things got extremely interesting.
Georgia seemed to be in position to steal Poole at the last minute after a successful visit. As things got closer to Poole's decision date, it was reported that Florida State's compensation package was the best of any school, and the pitch about playing time, along with his relationship with the coaching staff, kept them in the lead. In the end, the Seminoles were able to close.
He's listed as a safety, but Poole is an all-around athlete that contributes on both sides of the ball. He produced 37 tackles and two interceptions as a safety during his junior year, and he also put up 454 receiving yards and 200 rushing yards with 11 total touchdowns.
The Seminoles also have three-star safety Jemari Foreman, who logged 10 interceptions as a junior, and four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson, who will be used in the secondary. With Poole committed, they have added three athletes/playmakers to their defensive backfield during this cycle, which is pretty impressive.
Poole is the highest-ranked prospect that's committed to FSU in the 2027 cycle. This class isn't expected to be a big one, and with Poole on board, there likely won't be too much more added to it from this point.
Recruiting has been an issue for Florida State. With that said, the way they've been able to land the kind of talent they have over the last month, and getting nine players to shut down their recruitments, should certainly be commended.
