Following Florida State football’s loss to Louisville, head coach Mike Norvell’s future has already become a major topic of discussion. However, amid the scrutiny surrounding Norvell, he has made headlines for dismissing cornerback Chuck Kennon, the highest-rated recruit in Florida State’s 2026 signing class, from the Seminoles’ program.
Matt LaSerre of On3 reported that Kennon had been dismissed because of conduct deemed detrimental to the team.
“The highest-rated recruit from Florida State’s 2026 signing class, cornerback Chuck Kennon, is no longer with the Seminoles’ program,” the report read. “Kennon has been removed from the official team roster, and a university spokesman confirmed Tuesday he has been dismissed for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

The dismissal is undoubtedly a disappointing turn of events for Kennon, considering the competition Florida State faced to secure his commitment. He had several elite programs interested in his services, including Miami, Florida, Georgia, and LSU.
Mario Cristobal’s Miami made a strong push to land Kennon and hosted him for an official visit during his recruitment. However, the Hurricanes were unable to convince him to join their program, as he committed to the Seminoles in June 2025 and completed signing in December.
From a football perspective, Kennon arrived at Florida State with considerable potential and an impressive athletic profile. According to Rivals, he was ranked as the No. 9 cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class.
Kennon’s athletic ability extends beyond the football field, especially when it comes to speed. He recorded an incredible time of 11.08 seconds in the 100-meter dash during his junior year.
