Florida State to Rely on Revamped Ground Game in 2026

The Florida State Seminoles rushed for
over 2,600 yards and scored 31 touchdowns last year, but will have to make up for that production going into this season.
The
Seminoles lost half of their rushing yards, as quarterback Tommy Castellanos
and running back Gavin Sawchuk have moved on. They return two of their top four
rushers from last year’s squad and added two talented transfers, one from the
SEC.
Ousmane
Kromah
Now standing 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Ousmane Kromah has
lost some weight after rushing for 408 yards, but no touchdowns in 2025. Kromah
also caught nine passes for 147 yards and a touchdown. In a loss to No.16
Virginia, Kromah rushed for a season-high 63 yards.
Quintrevion
Wisner
In 2025, as a member of the Texas Longhorns,
Quintrevion Wisner led the Longhorns with 597 yards and scored three touchdowns.
That was a significant step back from his 2024 season in which he rushed for
over 1,000 yards.
In the win over Texas A&M, Wisner rushed for a
season-high 155 yards on 19 carries, averaging eight yards per carry. Wisner
brings speed and shiftiness to the Seminoles backfield that could present
problems for opposing defenses.
Samuel
Singleton
Singleton averaged seven yards per carry last season,
on his way to 360 yards and four scores. Against East Texas A&M, Singleton
gained 82 yards on four carries for a whopping 20-yard average.
Germari
Sands
After playing two seasons at Florida Atlantic, Germari
Sands arrives in Tallahassee to provide depth. Last season at FAU, he accounted
for 682 total yards but no touchdowns.
To avoid being one dimensional on offense, the
Seminoles must have a productive ground game. Last season, Castellanos scored
ten touchdowns running the football. 2026 starter Ashton Daniels has scored 11
rushing touchdowns total across four seasons, so it is a good bet that Daniels
will not be asked to tote the rock that much.
Also, these running backs will have to set their
sights on the end zone and get there early and often. Zero rushing touchdowns for
any of these players over a 12-game schedule will not get the job done.
No doubt, Florida State’s offense will be talented. Running
behind an experienced, but rebuilt offensive line (107 combined starts) will
help the cause.
These running backs have an opportunity to be a part
of something special this season, to help right the wrongs and correct the
mistakes that have caused the Seminoles to lose 17 games over the last two
seasons.
Any one of these running backs needs to step up their game in fall
camp and strive to be the first Seminole rusher to gain 1,000 yards since 2019.
