Florida State was forced to shift their focus at the quarterback position when four-star Wonderful Monds committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It put three-star recruit Logan Flaherty to the front of the line.
According to Matt LaSerre of Warchant, there’s a new development in FSU’s effort to land the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder. They’re pushing to get a pledge very soon.
Florida State quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker made the trip down to Port Charlotte to visit Flaherty two weeks ago, and a source close to the recruitment told Warchant that Mike Norvell was on the phone with Flaherty on Sunday night.
All indications are that the Seminoles are trying to lock in Flaherty’s commitment this week, if possible.
Flaherty is the No. 599 overall player in the 2027 recruiting cycle nationally and the No. 39 quarterback per Rivals’ industry rankings. He’s the No. 60 prospect in the state of Florida as well.
On his last visit to Tallahassee, Flaherty spoke very highly of Florida State.
“It was awesome to be back,” Flaherty said in March via Noles247. “You guys know, I’ve been here a lot of times. I really enjoy Florida State. Grew up watching Florida State football. Both my parents graduated from here. It’s always a blessing to be back on campus. Watched a great practice today.”
If FSU does land Flaherty, it won’t be easy. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have made themselves a major factor in his recruitment after hosting him late last month. In fact, Flaherty decommitted from the UCF Knights right after his trip.
Florida State has a few other options if getting Flaherty doesn’t pan out. LaSerre mentioned that three-star prospect Kevin Verpaele, who is committed to the Pittsburgh Panthers, is a player they’re interested in, and the aforementioned Tucker recently visited with him. Also, three-star DJ Hunter could be a potential target. He’s a three-star recruit out of Georgia who decommitted from the Kentucky Wildcats back in February.
It’ll be interesting to see if FSU can get a pledge out of Flaherty this week despite Rutgers coming on strong.
