Just a couple of months before the 2026-2027 season begins, Chris Beard has made a major splash in the NCAA transfer portal. Former Florida star Micah Handlogten has committed to Ole Miss, On3’s Joe Tipton has learned.
Handlogten entered the portal back in April, hoping to get another season of college eligibility. At the same time, he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Utah Jazz during the summer. He has opted against going down the professional route, though. Instead, Handlogten will continue his pursuit of what would be a fifth season in college basketball.

Handlogten appeared in 34 games this past season at Florida, including two starts. He averaged 4.1 points and 5.9 rebounds across 14.8 minutes per action. That came after he played in 16 games as a junior in 2024-25 after coming back from a devastating injury suffered in the 2024 SEC tournament.
Initially, the plan was for Handlogten to redshirt the 2024-25 season. However, he returned to the court in February 2025 as Florida went on to win its first national championship since 2007.
Ole Miss actually got to see what Handlogten has to offer up close and personal. In a Feb. 21 showdown in Oxford, the former Florida center played 16 minutes off the bench. Handlogten produced just two points but he snagged three rebounds and created three turnovers for the Gators.

This now makes eight commitments through the transfer portal this offseason for Ole Miss. Handlogten is the first player who was previously in the SEC to join the program. However, most of the work Beard has done comes in the frontcourt. Of the eight commits, seven of them are considered either a forward or center.
Before we know it, the regular season will be here for college basketball. Beard is still working to finalize the roster and the schedule. Ole Miss has not released its full nonconference slate. We know the Rebels will be heading to Hawai’i for the Maui Invitational, along with an SEC/ACC Challenge on the road in Blacksburg, facing off against the Virginia Tech Hokies.
