Florida tumbles out of The Athletic's re-rank top 25 after Week 6

Week 6 of the college football season was not kind to the Florida Gators, who got whalloped in their homecoming game at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks, 38-19. It was the program's first homecoming loss since 2018 and the second in a row after starting the Jon Sumrall era with four straight wins.
Following last weekend's gridiron grind, The Athletic's Chris Vannini issued his latest re-ranking of all 138 FBS schools and severely penalized the Orange and Blue for its embarrassing performance. After remaining among the top 10 last week despite a blowout by Missouri, Florida is now ranked just outside the top 25 at No. 26 — between No. 25 LSU and No. 27 Wisconsin.
"I gave Florida the benefit of the doubt after its blowout loss to Missouri, but no longer, after a lopsided home loss to South Carolina," Vannini offers. "The only reason the Gators don’t fall further is their Ole Miss win keeps them ahead of the next several teams that lack big wins."
Meanwhile, the Gators are unranked in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25.
SEC schools in The Athletic's 138 re-rank top 25
The Southeastern Conference still has nine schools among the top 25 of The Athletic's re-rank, with Georgia now leading the way at No. 1, followed by Texas (No. 3), Alabama (No. 5), and Ole Miss (No. 9) in the top 10. The remaining schools representing the league are Mississippi State (No. 13), Missouri (No. 14), Kentucky (No. 15), Tennessee (No. 17) and LSU (No. 25).
