Florida sophomore receiver Eugene “Tre” Wilson III is entering the transfer portal, according to an announcement posted to his Instagram page.

“Gator Nation, I am forever grateful to God for granting me this strength and perseverance to pursue my dreams,” Wilson wrote in his announcement. “From a young age, I aspired to attend the University of Florida, and achieving that goal has been an unforgettable experience.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to coach Billy Napier for recruiting me and providing the opportunity to be part of such an outstanding program — one that allowed me to compete at the highest level and play in front of thousands of passionate Florida fans in the Swamp.

“Wearing Orange and Blue for the past three years has been an honor. The experiences and memories in Gainesville have truly been remarkable. To my teammates, thank you for your dedication and showing me real brotherhood. To my family, I am deeply thankful for your unwavering support and guidance through every challenge and decision. After much prayer and consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal.”

Wilson is one of several receivers to depart Florida this offseason, including Tank Hawkins, Aidan Mizell, Naeshaun Mongtomery, and Muizz Tounkara. Of that group, Wilson was the most prominent piece of the offense.

Eugene Wilson III at Florida

A five-star recruit by On3’s measure, Wilson joined Florida as a member of the 2023 class. He immediately made an impact, starting seven games and playing in 10 as a true freshman. He finished the 2023 campaign with a team-high six touchdowns. He also had 61 receptions for 538 receiving yards and six carries for 55 rushing yards.

His sophomore year was marred by injury. Wilson missed Weeks 3-6 and then suffered a season-ending injury. He made just four starts, allowing him to redshirt. He ended that season with 266 receiving yards and one touchdown on 19 receptions.

After recovering over the offseason, Wilson looked to regain his status as Florida’s top receiver in 2025. He ended up playing eight games, starting five of them, and catching 27 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He missed the last four games of the season due to injury. His final game with the Gators was one of his best, a nine-catch, 121-yard performance against rival Georgia.

Wilson leaves Florida with 1,043 yards and 10 touchdowns on 107 receptions. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
