According to ESPN's Football Power Index, the Florida Gators have a 27.1% chance to make the College Football Playoffs.

There are likely going to be a boatload of SEC teams in the playoffs, as usual, so it'll be interesting to see how everything plays out now that the conference schedule is in full swing.

Currently, the Gators have the seventh-best odds in the conference to make the playoffs.

Their Week 4 opponent, Ole Miss, is given a 40.1% chance to make the playoffs.

That said, the Rebels have an incredibly difficult schedule, and ESPN's FPI gives them less than a 50% chance to defeat Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma.

Remember, the Gators' schedule isn't that much easier. After hosting Ole Miss, Florida will head to Missouri for what could be another ranked matchup, and then it's the gauntlet of No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Georgia from Oct. 17-31.

Florida has higher than one in four odds to make the CFP

To see the Gators above 25% to make the playoffs is incredible, to say the least. Jon Sumrall hasn't been perfect, far from it, but suddenly, everyone believes the Gators could be a true contender.

Now, they're nowhere near the 85.3% playoff odds that the Longhorns have or the 75.4% of the Bulldogs, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

Just making a bowl game would be a massive improvement from a year ago, but suddenly, the expectations are much higher.

ESPN's FPI only sees Florida going 8-4 this season. If that were the case, there's no shot they end up making the 12-team playoffs.

Should the playoffs expand, that record could work out for them, but for now, all eyes are on a 10-win season, at minimum, in order to make the playoffs.

Seventh-best odds in the SEC to win the national championship

This has to count for something, right? Sitting at 3-0, Florida is given a 3% chance to make the national championship game, and then a 1.1% chance to win it.

Texas, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee all have better odds than the Gators, in that order, but they're one of seven teams in the conference who have better than a one percent shot to win it all.

Again, this percentage looks like nothing compared to the Longhorns (17.6%) or Bulldogs (13.4%), and Florida could be quickly humbled and sent back to reality at the hands of No. 4 Ole Miss on Saturday, Sept. 26.
