Florida's Jadan Baugh Could Play Some Quarterback This Fall

The Florida Gators are entering training camp with a battle set to come to a conclusion between Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo and freshman Tramell Jones Jr. 

New head coach Jon Sumrall isn't certain when he'll make the final decision between who will start between Philo and Jones, believing both quarterbacks are capable of being starters for the offense.

Regardless of who wins the battle, the Gators will need to rely on running back Jadan Baugh to help carry the offense, especially early in the regular season when an inexperienced quarterback is under center.

New Gators offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner plans to use Baugh creatively this fall. During SEC Media Days on Wednesday in Tampa Bay, Baugh told reporters that Faulkner told him he could be used some at quarterback this season.

"Well, Coach Buster, he recruited me out of high school when he was at Georgia Tech. We had a real good relationship," Baugh said, via USA Today.

"He was talking to me day in and day out, and he was just telling me how he could use me in the offense, at quarterback, running back, anywhere on the field. I feel like that's definitely gonna get displayed this year."

It remains to be seen if Florida will just try to use Baugh as a runner from the quarterback position or would allow him to let a few throws rip to the offense's talented receiver trio.

Baugh thinks Jones or Philo will be competent for the offseason this season. He sees it as just another offseason battle for the offense.

"Again, those two quarterbacks are great quarterbacks," he said. "They're gonna be able to display their talents this year.

"But in the running back room, we stick to the same plan every day — go out there, work hard, just put our best efforts on the field, because each and every day you're fighting for a job. And all of us know that it's competitive, but also we're brothers as well."

Baugh took college football by storm last season when he rushed 220 times for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns. The Gators are hoping he can have another 1,000-plus rushing season.
