Mississippi State faces a major test Saturday as it looks to hand Alabama its first loss of the season while extending its winning streak to five games.

To improve to 5-0, Jeff Lebby's squad will need offensive production beyond Kamario Taylor, particularly from a running back room whose depth has been depleted, making additional contributions critical against the Crimson Tide.

ESPN's Katie George reported on the broadcast that Mississippi State's leading rusher, Fluff Bothwell, won't return to Saturday's game after giving it a go against Alabama.

Bothwell took one carry in Saturday's top-20 matchup in Starkville before exiting the game.

As noted by the Clarion Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network, Bothwell was listed as probable on the Bulldogs' initial injury report on Wednesday, Sept. 30 after sustaining an injury in the last game against Missouri, but was then taken off the injury report before the game.

Here's the latest on Bothwell's injury:

Bothwell sustained an injury in the first quarter of Saturday's game vs. Alabama.

"He's now on the sideline in shorts and wearing a walking boot on his left foot," George reported on the ABC broadcast. "I'm told it was a prior injury. They wanted to see how it felt. Clearly not good enough."

Mississippi State has not disclosed the exact type of injury that Bothwell is dealing with, according to the Clarion Ledger.
