Only five South Bend area high school football teams are still alive in the IHSAA State Tournament. It’s Regional Championship Friday, and none of the remaining teams have won a regional crown since 2021.

The South Bend Tribune’s Kyle Smedley will be at Freed Field for a Class 6A regional title tilt between Penn (11-0) and Fort Wayne Carroll (8-3). The Kingsmen have not won a regional since 2017, and the winner of Friday’s game will play the winner of Westfield (9-2) vs. Fishers (8-3).

Meanwhile, the South Bend Tribune’s Scott Davidson will be at Father Bly Field for a Class 4A regional championship game, pitting Saint Joseph (11-1) vs. Hobart (10-2). The Huskies have not advanced past the regional round since 2015, and the winner of this game will play the winner of Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (10-2) vs. Lebanon (10-2).

Elsewhere, The Lafayette Journal & Courier’s Ethan Hanson will be at Rice Field for a Class 5A clash for the regional crown between Concord (10-1) and Lafayette Jefferson (10-1). The last time the Minutemen advanced to semi-state was in 2013, and the winner of Friday’s game will play the winner of Michigan City (8-3) vs. Merrillville (9-2).
