A former four-star defensive lineman explained this week why he flipped from the Clemson Tigers to the Tennessee Volunteers during the 2025 college football recruiting cycle.
Former four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell detailed this week the reason he flipped from the Clemson Tigers to the Tennessee Vols during the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Campbell, 6-foot-4/290 pounds from Durham, NC, totaled four tackles and a half sack as a true freshman at Tennessee last season.
The North Carolina native signed with the Vols in late 2024 after committing to the Volunteers on the first day of the early signing period.
Campbell was committed to Clemson from January 29, 2024 to September 21, 2024.
Isaiah Campbell explains why he flipped from Clemson to Tennessee
The talented defensive lineman explained during an appearance on Rock Media that he flipped because of the brotherhood he saw at Tennessee.
“Just having a core bunch of dudes in the recruiting class,” said Campbell when asked why he flipped from Clemson. “Having some cool dudes that just want to go out there and just compete my ass off with. And I would just say that brotherhood. I saw how everybody was interacting. Big E (Bryson Eason) and Big O (Omari Thomas), just how they were interacting.”
With Eason, Tyre West, and Dominic Bailey moving on to the NFL, Campbell will have a big opportunity to contribute for the Vols this fall.
And one thing working in Campbell’s favor is that he handles Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner’s notoriously tough coaching very well.
“I think they're very talented, big men that we've got to really work on improving their play so that they can go out and compete and play at a championship level in this conference, which it ain't easy,” said Garner last spring when asked about Campbell and Ethan Utley. “I mean, it ain't easy, but the one thing I will say about both of those young men, they have handled it well. I mean everybody handles (Coach) G differently. I've actually been pleased with the way that they've handled me. They're tough-skinned. You can get on them, you can push them, and it seems not to rattle them.“
If Campbell can handle Garner, he should be able to handle life in the SEC.
