Former 5-star Georgia QB commit to enter transfer portal

Quarterback recruit Dylan Raiola transferred to Buford High School to play football closer to the University of Georgia, where he was committed as a senior in high school. Raiola committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on May 2023. The former five-star recruit then flipped to the Nebraska Cornhuskers two days before the early signing period in 2023. Raiola’s timeline is extremely similar to that of recent Georgia five-star quarterback decommitment Jared Curtis, who flipped to Vanderbilt.

Raiola’s decision to commit to Nebraska made some sense. The Cornhuskers had more early playing time to offer than Georgia and is where his dad, Dominic Raiola, played college football. His uncle, Donovan Raiola, was hired as Nebraska’s offensive line coach in 2022, so he had a lot of family ties to Nebraska.

At Nebraska, Raiola led the Cornhuskers to their first bowl win since 2016 and helped them go 7-5 this season with another bowl appearance. Things fell apart a bit this season with Raiola suffering an injury and his uncle being fired. Now, Raiola plans to transfer and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

In 2025, Raiola posted 2,000 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns and six interceptions. He added minimal rushing production before a broken fibula against USC on Nov. 1 ended his 2025 campaign.

Georgia probably won’t be a contender to land Raiola when the transfer portal opens on Jan. 2, but never say never. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is likely to return for another season in Athens. The biggest question for Georgia is probably who will the Bulldogs’ backup quarterback be next season and who will start in 2027. Of course, Georgia fans learned just how quickly things can change in 2024 when Carson Beck suffered an elbow injury in the SEC championship and then transferred a month later.

Raiola is ranked as the No. 2 player (and No. 2 quarterback) in the transfer portal. He should have a major market. He’s not the only quarterback to plan to transfer. Florida’s DJ Lagway plans to transfer after two seasons.
