Alabama's offense will look much different for the upcoming season.
Quarterback Ty Simpson pretty much had to do it all last season. The running game was a disaster and something that showed up big time in the SEC championship loss and in the 38-3 thumping by Indiana in the College Football Playoff at the Rose Bowl.
Simpson won't be in Tuscaloosa in 2026, and the Crimson Tide hope the running game will be better.
Alabama will also be without wide receiver Cole Adams, who transferred to Vanderbilt.
Per Matt Stahl of AL.com, the starting punt returner for the Crimson Tide in 2025 explained recently that he had set out to stay with Alabama for his college career, but he had to do what was best for himself.
“I made that commitment in high school to go to Alabama, and I’m really big on commitment,” Adams said. “I feel like a lot of people don’t take the word commitment as it used to be with this day and age, so I took that to heart for sure.
"But things do change and you got to do, at some point, what’s best for yourself.”
Adams spent three years with the Crimson Tide. He caught five passes for 71 yards and one touchdown in 2025. He returned 19 punts for 156 yards and one kickoff for 20 yards last season.
Adams noted that he was first intrigued by Vandy when the team upset Alabama 40-25 in 2024.
“Like it was pretty cool from the opposite side of the field to see the relatedness and the brotherhood that those guys — you know, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing," Adams said.
"You go out there and play your butt off and who knows what happens between those white lines. Anything can happen, you know? And that was the first time where I really looked at Vanderbilt and I was like, these guys got something good going on.”
Vanderbilt had a good thing going on with quarterback Diego Pavia, but he's headed to the NFL this year.
Adams will try to up his stats with a new starter for Vandy.
