Former Auburn coach says Georgia football 'is built to make a run'

Former Auburn Tigers head coach Gene Chizik knows a thing or two about winning in the SEC. Chizik led Auburn to the 2010 national championship with quarterback Cam Newton having a generational season.
Chizik revealed at SEC media days that he loves the way Georgia's roster is built. He thinks Georgia has the pieces to make a national championship run and former Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban is in agreement.
"I'm bullish on Georgia," Chizik said. "I really like Georgia. I like what Kirby's (Smart) got going there. The culture that he's built. Very similar to the culture you had at Alabama, coach (Nick Saban).
"I like the way the team is built. First of all, Gunner Stockton as you mentioned, he is a very underrated quarterback in this entire country and he is everything that Georgia is. He embodies what Georgia is. Toughness, selfless. He's that guy that walks into the locker room, doesn't have to say a lot, but they all follow him because he is an innate leader. He's go that in him."
Chizik went on to praise the size of Georgia's offensive line that is "built to knock you off the football" in the running game. Chizik likes Georgia's running back group featuring Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens.
"I think they are built to, maybe, probably the best they've been since maybe 2022 to make a true run at this," Chizik continued. He likes Georgia's defense and thinks the Bulldogs have elite pieces at all three levels of their defense.
"Georgia is built to make a run," Chizik adds. Former Alabama coach Nick Saban agreed with Chizik. Former Georgia tight end Ben Watson praised Georgia's stability entering the 2026 season.
