Recruiting scandals are nearly a thing of the past in college football with every school allowed to throw money at players, but a new kind of recruiting scandal is impacting Auburn.

No, it doesn't implicate Alex Golesh, Hugh Freeze or any Tigers head coach, but the alleged actions of a former staffer were enough to draw the attention of prosecutors.

Police arrested a 24-year-old former Auburn football staffer on Monday and hit with two charges for allegedly stealing recruiting evaluations and sending them to other schools.

Former Auburn football staffer arrested

David Jenrath turned himself in on Monday to face charges of theft of trade secrets and computer tampering in Auburn, Alabama. As of Tuesday, he was still being held in custody.

Jenrath allegedly stole Auburn's recruiting evaluations on July 19 and sent the information to other schools, identifying himself in one case as "Don Julio," according to ESPN.

Jenrath's charging documents accuse him of having "obtained and/or retained confidential, proprietary information consisting of Auburn University Athletics' information, and/or knowingly made a copy or reproduction of Auburn University Athletics' trade secrets and communicate or transmit a secret without the owners' consent."

The charges do not accuse Jenrath of sending any information regarding Auburn's NIL spending or playbooks, but what he sent and how he accessed it were enough for prosecutors to bring charges.

Auburn police said in a statement Tuesday that a "business reported that sensitive information was stolen from the business and distributed to their competitors."

Who is David Jenrath?

Jenrath wasn't a full-time employee at Auburn, ESPN reports, but his now-deleted LinkedIn page listed him as a player personnel scouting assistant for the football program from January through June of this year, with a focus on running backs and safeties,

The 24-year-old is originally from Tennessee and spent his undergraduate days at the University of Tennessee. It's unclear whether Jenrath sent information to Tennessee's football program.
