Former Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is suing the NCAA

Former Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is taking some legal action against the NCAA.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Castellanos is suing the NCAA and wants a judge to allow him to enter the transfer portal so he can play at a different school.

He was granted a fifth year of eligibility last week after Colorado Judge Charlotte Sweeney ordered the NCAA to declare eligible all class of 2022 athletes who finished their four seasons this past spring.

The lawsuit will be filed in Texas, and Castellanos will be represented by lawyers Darren Heitner and Ryan Downton.

Castellanos has generated interest from some schools after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. He spent the 2025 season with Florida State, finishing with 2,760 yards through the air, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Before that, he spent two seasons with Boston College and one with UCF. In four seasons, Castellanos completed 58.5% of his passes for 6,449 yards through the air, 48 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions.

Time will tell whether Castellanos is successful with his lawsuit. If he is, there’s a chance other players follow in his footsteps.
