Former Iowa football quarterback Marco Lainez announced his re-entry into the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in the past two years on Sunday evening.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound quarterback spent the past season serving as the backup quarterback for Elon, where he threw for 113 yards on 8-for-20 passing in just three games played for the Phoenix. Lainez also rushed for 30 yards on nine carries.

Lainez will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he elects to commit out of the portal.

During his two years at Iowa, Lainez only appeared in one game, which occurred in the fourth quarter of Iowa’s 35-0 loss to Tennessee in the 2024 Citrus Bowl, throwing for four yards on 2-for-7 through the air and rushing for 51 yards on six carries.

Lainez initially signed with Iowa in its 2023 class. The Hun School product from New Jersey was ranked as a three-star signee, as the nation's No. 49 quarterback and as the No. 16 player in New Jersey, per 247Sports.
