Former Mississippi State QB Will Rogers joins Oklahoma State football coaching staff

STILLWATER — Will Rogers is joining Oklahoma State's football coaching staff.

No, not the famous Oklahoman born outside of Oologah in 1879 who became an early Hollywood star. This Will Rogers is a quarterback who played five seasons of college football between Mississippi State (2020-23) and Washington (2024).

OSU football coach Eric Morris said at his Tuesday press conference Rogers is part of the team's coaching staff and alluded he will help coach the team's quarterbacks. Rogers is not yet listed on OSU's roster.

"That’s a position (quarterback) I don’t have to worry about," Morris said. "I can leave installing the offensive staff and I know we’ve been around each for so long. Now naturally I wanted somebody under Coach (Sean) Brophy, so we inserted Kevin Kilmer is a guy that’s here that was with us at Texas Tech, super sharp. Called plays a ton. And we’ve got Will Rogers, the old quarterback at Mississippi State."

Rogers, from Brandon, Mississippi, threw for more than 14,000 yards in his career and finished his career as Mississippi State's all-time passing leader.

Redshirt sophomore Drew Mestemaker is OSU's starting quarterback while redshirt senior Grant Jordan and freshman Broderick Vehrs are competing for the backup role.
