James Dambacher was hired as the next head football coach at Chatham Glenwood at a Wednesday, Feb. 25 school board meeting.
Dambacher, a 2010 Auburn graduate, was previously the head coach at New Berlin for two seasons where he ended a 10-year playoff drought in the 2024 season before returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach.
“My family and I are truly honored to become part of the Ball-Chatham and Glenwood High School community,” Dambacher said in a press release. “Glenwood already represents discipline, accountability and pride. I am grateful to the administration for the trust they have placed in me to continue leading a program with such a strong foundation.”
Dambacher replaces David Hay, who led the Titans for 10 seasons and reached the playoffs each of the nine possible seasons with a 79-27 overall record before retiring.
Glenwood won its second straight Central State Eight East Division title and finished 10-1 following a second-round loss to eventual Class 6A state runner-up East St. Louis.
Dambacher was a standout defensive end at NCAA Division III Illinois College where he was all-Midwest Conference first team before becoming an assistant at Auburn, then head coach at New Berlin.
