Former NFL Coach Predicted to Replace Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is a hot commodity in the coaching carousel right now.

According to On3’s Brett McMurphy, Pete Nakos, and Chris Low, three schools are expected to offer Kiffin a boatload of money. Ole Miss, Florida and LSU are set to offer Kiffin a contract in the $13 million-per-year range.

Kiffin is in his sixth season at Ole Miss and has compiled a 54-19 overall record. He has led Ole Miss to a 10-1 record this season and has the program on the cusp of a College Football Playoff berth.

However, there is a chance that he could leave Ole Miss before the CFP starts. If that happens, someone would have to step in as an interim head coach, and according to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, defensive coordinator Pete Golding or quarterbacks coach Joe Judge are the two “most likely” interim head coaches.

Judge spent two seasons as the head coach of the New York Giants (2020 and 2021) before he was fired. He finished his tenure with a 10-23 record.

After his Giants’ tenure, he spent two seasons with the New England Patriots before joining Ole Miss in 2024 as a senior analyst. He transitioned to quarterbacks coach for the 2025 season.

Judge has extensive coaching experience throughout his career, so he makes sense as a potential interim option if Kiffin leaves before the CFP.

Ole Miss will end its regular season with the annual “Egg Bowl” game against Mississippi State on Nov. 28. Ole Miss has won two in a row and four of the last five in the rivalry.

Kickoff for this year’s game will be at noon ET.
