A familiar face is coming back to Las Cruces.

Former New Mexico State center Canaan Yarro will join the Aggies as an offensive analyst with a focus on the offensive line, he announced on his X account on Thursday, Jan. 1. Yarro spent the 2025 season as a graduate assistant for fellow Conference USA team Missouri State, where he also focused on the offensive line.

Yarro was a three-year starter at center for NM State from 2022-24 after transferring from Southern Utah. He was a second-team All-Independent selection by College Football Network in 2022, a second-team All-CUSA selection by the conference in 2023 and Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded CUSA center in 2024. Yarro was also an All-CUSA honorable mention and member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List in 2024.

Yarro anchored the Aggies’ offensive line during two of their most successful seasons in recent memory in 2022 and 2023, and briefly entertained a professional football career by taking part in NM State’s Pro Day in 2025. He was a part of the MSU coaching staff that downed the Aggies 24-17 in overtime in Las Cruces this past season.

Yarro becomes the second player to join Aggies coach Tony Sanchez’s staff after playing under him at NM State. Dylan Early joined as a graduate assistant for the 2025 season after being one of the Aggies’ team captains in 2024 during Sanchez’s first year as head coach.

The move also represents more movement on Sanchez’s staff, as former tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Nelson Fishback and defensive line coach Eti Ena have departed for similar roles at Coastal Carolina and Washington State, respectively. Taylor Mazzone has since been promoted from offensive analyst to tight ends coach to take one of Fishback’s former roles.
