Former Ohio State defensive lineman announces transfer to UCLA

The Ohio State football team has had more than its fair share of players in the transfer portal this year. The influx may be due to new NCAA rules that have closed the spring window, so players feel more pressure to make a decision earlier. Either way, it is more than usual for a place like OSU. Another domino fell earlier today when it was announced that former Buckeye Maxwell Roy has committed to UCLA.
Roy came to Ohio State just a year ago as a four-star prospect out of St. Joe's Prep in Philadelphia, the same school that produced Marvin Harrison Jr. He was ranked as the No. 36 defensive lineman according to 247Sports composite rankings. Injuries derailed his freshman campaign, leading to a redshirt year. He did not appear in any games with the Buckeyes. Roy is one of three OSU defensive tackles to enter the portal this year, joining Jarquez Carter and Eric Mensah.

It's another big loss in terms of depth on the defensive line, maybe not for next year, but definitely in years to come. Ohio State will need to fill some holes via the transfer portal throughout the remainder of the winter and spring.
