Coming off of his best season yet in the NFL, a former Buckeye who transferred away is now suing the Big Ten amongst others.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have looked like a real NFL factory over the last two years with 25 players drafted to the league. There are no signs of Ohio State slowing down either with more to come in 2027 led by Jeremiah Smith.

There’s a new development around one former Buckeye who transferred away to finish his college career, and it’s an interesting development that we’re seeing more and more often.

Former Buckeye Jameson Williams is suing the Big Ten amongst others

According to a report, current Detroit Lions wideout Jameson Williams has filed a lawsuit in the state of California against the NCAA, Big Ten, and SEC over allegations that they’ve used his name, image, and likeness while not properly compensating him for it.

“Williams has received no fair compensation from Defendants for the full commercial value of his name, image, and likeness. Defendants continuously financially benefit from Jameson Williams’ name, image, and likeness rights, while also doing so without providing him with just compensation,” the lawsuit states.

Williams was a four-star recruit in the class of 2019 and spent two seasons at Ohio State before finishing up his college career at Alabama in 2021. Williams was buried on the depth chart in Columbus during his time and played in 15 games with 266 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

After transferring to Alabama, Williams went off for 1,572 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide in 15 games. Once the speedy wideout got his chance to be a starter, he looked like one of the best players in the country and became a first-round pick to the Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Williams is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons as the second option in Detroit’s offense. The former Buckeye had a career-high 1,117 receiving yards last season with seven touchdowns.

Now, Williams has a bit of off-field business to take care of while he’s in his NFL offseason with the lawsuits in place.
