Former Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown will head to Weber State for his final year of eligibility.
The school announced on Jan. 16 that it had signed Brown, who reentered the transfer portal this month after one season at California.
While it is a move down to the Football Championship Subdivision, it reunites Brown with his former high school coach. Eric Kjar, who coached Brown in 2021 at Corner Canyon High School in Utah and was recently hired to lead the program.
Brown left Ohio State for Cal last January in the hope of winning the starting quarterback job, but lost out to Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who became the first true freshman since Jared Goff to start a season for the Golden Bears.
Sagapolutele was named a freshman All-American as he threw for 3,454 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Brown also fell short in his two quarterback competitions with the Buckeyes, ultimately backing up Will Howard in 2024 and Kyle McCord in 2023.
While with the Buckeyes, he threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns. His lone start in the 2023 Cotton Bowl was cut short by an injury as he suffered a high ankle sprain in the first quarter.
He was once ranked as the No. 6 quarterback in his high school recruiting class for 2022, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, when he signed with the Buckeyes.
