The second week of the 2026 transfer portal cycle is in full swing, and the Oklahoma Sooners hope to continue adding to their roster in their pursuit to make the College Football Playoff again next season. On Tuesday, they saw a former player find a new home via the portal.

Former OU linebacker Sammy Omosigho has committed to play for the UCLA Bruins out of the transfer portal. Omosigho spent three years in Norman, arriving as part of Oklahoma’s 2023 recruiting class. He had been in line to make a major impact at inside linebacker in 2026, after a good season in a rotational role in 2025. However, Omosigho now heads to Los Angeles for a new start in the Big Ten.

During his time with the Sooners, Omosigho tallied 97 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and four passes defended. He’d become an important piece of the linebacking core for Oklahoma, and he gives new UCLA head coach Bob Chesney a veteran voice who has been developed by one of the best linebacker coaches in the country in OU head coach Brent Venables. A player who may very well have been a starter for the Sooners in 2026 will now likely be doing so for the Bruins instead.

Oklahoma is in a bit of a holding pattern right now at linebacker, especially on the inside. With Omosigho heading to UCLA and Kobie McKinzie going to Northwestern, the Sooners are waiting on a decision from Kip Lewis on whether he’ll stay in school or go pro. They’re also waiting on a decision from the NCAA on whether or not they’ll grant Owen Heinecke another year of eligibility, or if he’ll be punished for playing three games of lacrosse at Ohio State. Those are important decisions that will shape the position for Oklahoma, who has already added Michigan transfer Cole Sullivan to help at inside linebacker.

At the Cheetah position, Kendal Daniels is out of eligibility, but Reggie Powers III is set to take over as the starter, though the Sooners need more depth behind him. Lewis’ decision isn’t the only big one the Sooners are waiting on, as top wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III and starting quarterback John Mateer also need to decide if they’re staying or going pro. However, OU got good news on Sunday that kicker Tate Sandell is returning for his final season in 2026.
